Museu das Favelas is a renowned museum located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The museum is dedicated to displaying the rich culture and history of the favelas, which are the rapidly growing urban settlements situated on the hillsides of the city. It showcases the art, architecture, music, and social life of the favela communities and aims to break the stereotypes and prejudices that often surround them. The museum was established in 2008 by a group of local residents and artists who wanted to create a space for dialogue and reflection on the social issues faced by the favela residents. It has since become a major tourist attraction and a symbol of resistance against social inequality. Museu das Favelas is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Brazilian culture and social justice.

It was kinda cool but I didn't really see a need for a museum. A YouTube video would probably work better and save a ton of money

I came for a ballroom competition. It is awesome that the museum collaborates with the LGBTIQ community! The facilities were accessible, the building is beautiful and for what I could see, it has a fresh and interesting perspective on favelas.

A place full of history, this Palace was built by the German architect Matheus Häusler at the request of the family of Café Baron Elias Antônio Pacheco e Chaves. He was also deputy and "vice president" of the Province of São Paulo, the name given at the time to what we call today the position of Governor. This mansion is an example of new artistic techniques and the strength of the coffee economy in Brazil during its heyday. The property, divided into four floors and 4,000 square meters, was inspired by Écouen Castle, in France. The mansion was named "Palácio dos Campos Elísios" in 1915, when it became the seat of the Government and the official residence of the governor of the State of São Paulo. In 1967 a fire damaged the building and both the government headquarters and the Governor's residence were moved to the current Morumbi Palace. The favela museum has only been there for 1 year, it has a small but interesting collection, as well as a super interesting library where the librarian Sidney welcomes us with receptivity and friendliness. From 2024 onwards, the collection will expand. It is an excellent program both to see the collection and to get to know the magnificent Palace. Free entrance.

The favela museum is an extremely cultural space in the center. There is a closet to store backpacks, a space outside if you want to sit and rest and the place is safe despite the region. It is in front of several bus stops and does not have parking, making parking difficult and unsafe - prefer the bus. We went to see the architecture (which is beautiful and in excellent condition) and we were enchanted by the relevant exhibitions. There is a library and you can read books there. Worth the visit!

Anyone who says the museum is ugly is either lying or has bad faith - the mansion is an architectural spectacle. The museum's content, however, is very limited, which could be reversed by taking advantage of the second floor.

Beautiful building! In fact, his story and works of art, such as sculptures, were worth further explanation. I think the exhibitions could be more harmonious with the structure of the building, which also has immense value.
